Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's story begins with a tragedy. She was only 2 years old when his mother passed away, his father is not an ordinary man and his grandmother Jijabai took care of him and raised him. A warrior wins a war not only with the strength but with the intelligence, Sambhaji was taught this lesson very young. Along with sanskrit he learnt 13 languages! He also knew Portuguese, this helped him fight against Portuguese colonizers in Goa.
Sambhaji Maharaj did the extraordinary right from childhood. He was 9 when Aurangzeb extend a hand of friendship.It was a lie. Aurangzeb had a Fort in outskirts of Aurangabad come to the Fort had enough riches to sustain the Maratha empire with this idea, a 23 year old defeated a Mughal king not once, he defeated Aurangzeb multiple times repeatedly a force of 20,000 Marathas faced off against 8 lakh Mughals. When Aurangzeb wanted to take help the Portuguese Navy Sambhaji Maharaj defeated this navy as well, Sambhaji troubled the Mughal so much they lost focus in North.
And the Mughals focus on Bundelkhand, Rajasthan Punjab saw regional Kings emarge and this was his contribution and this was his legacy! If Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj gave birth to the Swaraj movement then Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj kept it alive! In a span of 9 years, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj won 120 battles. He didn't lose a single battle but in the end, his family stabbed him in the back. Ganoji Shirke was sambhaji's wife Yesubai brother Chhatrapati Sambhaji refused to make him or landlord. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj did not want to favour family in policy and Sambhaji Maharaj did not want to do any such task that went against the concept of Swarajya, to take revenge against Sambhaji for not favouring him Ganoji betrayed Sambhaji and informed Aurangzeb's spies when Sambhaji Maharaj was on a secret path to Raigad at Sambhaji Raje was caught without an army, political prisoners are generally given some dignity and Sambhaji was still a rival king, but still he was tortured not only physical but mentally too.
Aurangzeb put forward 3 conditions
- 1. Sambhaji had to consider Aurangzeb as his for sovereign ruler.
- 2. Empty all Maratha coffers and treasure and give it to Mughals.
- 3. Sambhaji should embrace Islam and abandon his faith.
Sambhaji was not going to accept these under any circumstances NO CHANCE. Because accepting these conditions would betray the principles of Swaraj.
