Why don't we teach Mahabharat and Ramayan in Indian schools?
Some people think these are religious text but I actually, there are part of a our history it's not about religion, the Epic is about stories. Because kids and elders both learn well from stories.
Today we want to share top 3 lessons from Mahabharata which are relevant in these modern times as well. The real enemy of strength is Pride. Today, man is the most powerful creature on the planet. Man has gone beyond Earth to the Moon and Mars. All knowledge is available at the click of a fingertips. We extract oil from the depth of deep seas and oceans, but still man has to bend to the vagaries of nature.
Lesson 1
Bheem was strong he was not scared of anyone. But one, a monkey appeared in the front of him in the forest, the monkey appeared very weak. He was not able to get out of Bheema's way. Bheema asked the monkey to move his tail, the monkey 's tail was in Bheema's way. Monkey said I'm weak, I can't move my tail please move my tail and go your way, the monkey requested, this request angered Bheema, he tried to move the monkey's tail with his feet, disrespectfully but The Tail didn't move an inch, he kept his mace aside and tried to move the tail with his hands, But the tail not move at all. He used all his strength, but even then the tail didn't move.
Bheema joined his hands in surrender. He realised that this was no ordinary monkey. He realised that this was Hanuman the son of Vayu. Hanuman appeared in his true form and said to be Bheema. Hanuman said to Bheema many people have strength! Physical strength, financial strength and mental strength, but the moment we started taking pride in our abilities in that moment, our pride becomes our downfall some tasks can be achieved with humility not with strength. There is no shame in asking other for help the tail was really just the tool, Bheema's real hurdle was his ego, his Pride. Don't you think if we cast aside our ego, our pride, our superiority. We will actually be able to progress much faster?
I think this lesson is a very relevant especially today!
Lesson 2
Who is a real friend?
We expect our friends to support us in everything we do. We want their help to hide our mistake and vices, Karna and Duryodhan were also friends, When Karna's own brothers mocked him, made fun of him. Duryodhan was the one who supported him, he gave karna a place by his side and respect him. Karna had vowed that he would be loyal to Duryodhan no matter what. Karna has shades of Grey. Karna is very interesting character. He is a grey character, we can learn a lot from Karna, all of us can relate with karna because he is wronged repeatedly by many people.
Now where did karna go wrong? When Duryodhan burned the Pandavas palace Karna should have been the one to stop him first, But Karna didn't. When Duryodhan disrobed Draupadi in front of his court. Karna should have been the one to stop Duryodhan but Karna didn't, When Duryodhan under the influence of greed set out to kill the Pandavas. Karna should have stop him from yet another misdeed, But Karna Didn't. Karna fulfilled his promise to support the Duryodhan at all times. But the point that we actually need to ponder about is is weather this support helped Duryodhan or harmed him ? Karna failed as a friend. He didn't failed once, he failed multiple times. Because he never showed a mirror to Duryodhan. Don't you think that true friends stop us from doing the wrong thing? Loyalty to your friends is not a bad at all, but an questioning loyalty to our friends can be a fatal. I think this lesson is also very relevant today.
Lesson 3
Who is the real hero ?
Neither were perfect Pandavas. Pandavas had flaws, Kauravas had qualities but It wouldn't seem right if the Kauravas won and Pandavas lost. It would've felt wrong.
It would seem as if the story was incomplete but why? why do we want Pandavas to win? There was one big difference between Kauravas and Pandavas. The Pandavas the consequences of their mistakes, they accepted their mistakes sometimes they won, sometimes they lost. But the Never ran away from their mistakes. On the other hand Kauravas kept blaming others, they never took responsibility for their actions they became victims of their own victimhood. In Satyug, good and evil stayed in different worlds. In Treta Yug, good and evil stay in same world.
In the Dwapar Yug, Good and evil stay in the same family. Today in the Kali Yug, Good and evil reside in the same person.
The great war mentioned in the Mahabharata is nowhere else but happening in our own mind every single day. Think about it we are focus like Arjun, We are Envious like Duryodhan. We can guide like Krishna. And we can deceive like Shakuni. I think ultimately Mahabharat tries to tell us something very wise we can have 100 different and damaging Faults within us but with even 5 good qualities we can remove overcome these faults.
